Brammo and Electric Vehicle Grants August 6, 2009

On my drive this morning, I was listening to NPR 850 KOA and heard an update on the electric vehicle grants Obama is looking to implement.  According to the Denver Post

“Obama announced that the recreational vehicle company’s new owner, Navistar International Corp., had won a $39 million grant to build 400 electric-battery trucks. That means work in an RV-heavy region crushed by the recession, where unemployment has jumped so high so fast that Obama called it “astonishing””

Electric vehicles are popping up every where. Or maybe it’s the Joshua Tree Principle?  I find it interesting that America prides itself in being a world leader, and we are so far behind when it comes to technology.  For example, the Japanese cell phone has been demonstrating the features of an iPhone for years.  Now, some use it as their credit or debit card, simply “swiping their cell.”

Whether or not Obama’s plan is the right way to accomplish the inevitable, I’m not one to say.  But his previous statements followed with the awarding of $2.4 billion in grants toward the production of electric and hybrid cars, part of his proposed stimulus plan.

Brammo couldn’t have picked a better time to penetrate the industry and re ally set the standards.

Brammo in Best Buy? At that price? July 28, 2009

People seem to be very confused when Brammo was announced to be distributed through Best Buy.  Best Buy is an electronic store. They are known for leading the pack in innovation and standing on the edge of cutting technology.  If someone is looking for the latest and greatest… where do they go? Best Buy.

“But Best Buy Chief Executive Brian Dunn defended the biker excursion as just the type of venture the company needs to test as it retunes its retail formula amid changing technological trends.” Stated the Wall Street Journal.

The Brammo Enertia is an electronic.  Moreover, how many people visit the most prominent motorcycle shop?  Now compare their BEST day to the amount of foot traffic a Best Buy has.  The number of people who stroll through motorcycle shops doesn’t even come close to comparing to the number of people who visit Best Buy.

How does Brammo “justify” the price?  The same way Apple did when they released the first iPod at $600.00, or the astronomical pricing of the first plasma screen TV’s.  Leading technology is expensive. It has to be.  Eventually the price will come down and better models and upgrades will be available… just like everything else.  What about the recession?

“Best Buy has been weathering the recession better than some retailers, and said last month that it boosted its already leading market share in the U.S. by two percentage points during the three months ending in April, as it picked up business from its former rival, Circuit City Stores Inc., which closed in March.”

Yes ‘times’ are tough, yes Best Buy seems like they are taking on huge ‘unusual‘ addition.  Best Buy has a history of sharp turns that have kept it ahead of competitors.

What makes a “biker” ? July 27, 2009

So, as you can see from my poll below most of you are saying you Have to be a Biker to ride a form of 2-wheeled transportation.  That being said, what qualities make up a biker?  Do you have to have tatoos? Work in your garage? More riding boots than dress shoes?  Or did you interpret that question to be a biker- as in pedal bikes?  Comment and let me know!

New TTXGP Video – Worth the wait? July 15, 2009

The video released today by the TTXGP folks ranks high on Brammofan’s Awesomeness Scale.  Maybe even above a 9.  Multiple Brammo TTR shots, along with some really smooth editing and post production work adds up to two thumbs up from me.  My only criticism (because you know it’s coming) is that I wish they had put a fraction of the energy that they put into this video, into some live feeds during the event.  I know it was the first year and it was new and green and techy, but when @skadamo and I had to resort to begging people on the Isle of Man forums to post the results of the race, something is a little lax in the area of “planning.”

That said, here’s the footage and your official warning to Hold . On . Tight (ly).
